Ball Chairs

Welcome to Swan Ball 2018!

What an honor and a joy to be chairing the 56th annual Swan Ball on June 2, 2018. We walk in the footsteps of more than one hundred talented and energetic women who, over the past 55 years, have created and built a fundraising institution that reflects the very best of Nashville philanthropic leadership. We are grateful for their example and kindness.

It’s easy to be inspired by Cheekwood, its sweeping grounds, intriguing exhibits and rich sense of history. Surveying the Country Place Era gardens and 55-acre grounds animates A Story of Champagne and the Stars, the theme for Swan Ball 2018 that harkens back to the decade of Art Deco modernism in the 1920s.

Connecting with old friends and new during the planning phase of this wonderful event is deeply rewarding. Nashvillians understand the unique nature of this annual event. Whatever talents or gifts people possess are generously offered to help make the Ball a magical evening. That eagerness to give has been impressive and humbling.

We extend our deepest gratitude to the many individuals, foundations and corporations who allow the Swan Ball and Cheekwood to continue to thrive through their generous support.  Thank you for all that you do for Cheekwood and our community!

Endless thanks to our amazing committee for all their efforts and commitment these past twelve months. You are the true heart of the Swan Ball.

Thank you for supporting us during this grand adventure!

Boz Scaggs

Headlining Swan Ball 2018 will be music legend and one of rock and rock’s most soulful blue-eyed vocalists, Grammy award winning Boz Scaggs, whose unique voice and trademark sound as a songwriter and guitarist found acclaim in the 1960s as a guitarist and occasional lead singer of the Steve Miller Band.

Singer/songwriter Boz Scaggs went on to gain widespread fame and success in the 1970s with several solo TOP hit singles, including hits “Lido Shuffle” and Grammy award winning “Lowdown” from the critically acclaimed album Silk Degrees (1976 for best R&B song), which hit #2 on the BillBoard 200 in the U.S. and #1 in countries around the world. Silk Degrees has been certified five times platinum by the RIAA and continues to post impressive sales numbers. A sell-out world tour followed, and his hit single, the poignant ballad “We’re All Alone,” was later recorded by Rita Coolidge and Frankie Valli.

Fans of his remarkable career will instantly recognize Scaggs’ characteristically artful touch as a singer. His soul is effortless and deeply felt in every lyric he delivers. Scaggs continues to write and record music and tour the world. In 2014, Scaggs booked four days at Nashville’s famed Blackbird Studio, enlisting top-flight Music City session players as well as guests Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams. A Fool to Care, released in 2015, showcased covers of soul, NOLA R&B, rock and country covers. His explorations in blues, R&B, rock and jazz have produced lasting work and a career that has earned him acclaim, a loyal following and an enduring respect among musicians.

Temple St. Clair

Temple St. Clair founded her company in 1986 in Florence, Italy, beginning her partnership with the world’s finest goldsmiths – the centuries-old Florentine jewelers’ guild. That same year, St. Clair became the first fine jeweler to be represented and carried by Barneys New York. With an artist’s eye and explorer’s heart, St. Clair fashions rare colored gems with distinctive gold work to illustrate universal narratives of the earth and cosmos.

Temple’s Fine Jewelry collection is recognized for iconic rock crystal amulets, triple granulation and archer’s granule; all are signature brand elements with a nod to the designer’s classical foundation.

With her High Jewellery collection, St. Clair celebrates a connoisseur level of gemstones with one-of-a-kind pieces born out of an ongoing quest for the rarest stones in the world such as richly patterned Lightening Ridge Australian Black Opal, electric blue Brazilian Paraiba Tourmaline, fiery African Tsavorite, and her iconic Royal Blue Moonstone.

St. Clair’s Haute Couture Jewellery collection represents artistry at its most collectible. Uncompromising in her choice of materials and execution, St. Clair explores themes that are meaningful to her through a lens of whimsy and discovery. Her critically acclaimed, Mythical Creatures from The Golden Menagerie, made its début at the Louvre Museum in Paris in January 2015. The second chapter of the Golden Menagerie trilogy, Wings of Desire, was presented at the Salon:Art + Design at the Park Avenue Armory in November 2015. The final chapter, The Big Game, was exhibited in December 2016 at the prestigious DeLorenzo Gallery in New York City.

Temple St. Clair received a B.A. in Italian Studies from Smith College and a M.A. in Italian Renaissance Literature from Middlebury College. St. Clair was awarded the Hall of Fame Award for design in 2011 by the Accessories Council. In 2016, Temple St. Clair received the GEM Award for Jewellery Design, the industry’s most prestigious honor, for her work on The Golden Menagerie. Publications on St. Clair’s work include Alchemy, A Passion for Jewels published by Harper Collins in 2008 and The Golden Menagerie published by Assouline in 2016. In 2017, Temple St. Clair joins Louis Comfort Tiffany and Alexander Calder as the third American jewelry designer whose work is represented in the permanent collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts at the Louvre in Paris.

Temple St. Clair’s jewels are treasured by devoted collectors. Her collections are sold throughout North America, Europe and Japan.
“I am still learning to be a jewellery designer but I am a storyteller.”
