Lot 74: Black by Black Wine Vertical

6 Double Magnum Bottles$6,500 Value

Black by Black was inspired by arguably the top wine collector in the world, Tom Black, and L.A. Times Winemaker of the Year Jim Clendenen from Au Bon Climat Winery. Only the finest grapes from their Santa Barbara County ranch created this special Meritage wine, which has scored a perfect 100 points. Composed of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 20% Petit Verdot to produce a bold and balanced red wine, only 50 cases are produced annually. They are available only at charity auctions. These six double magnums are the equivalent of 24 bottles, or two cases of wine, in a vertical of 2006 through 2011, increasing the overall value. These large format bottles can be cellared for ten years, but the wine is drinking great today!

The back label itself is a Japanese poem transformed into an original piece of art using only black ink by Master Sumi-e artist Drue Kataoka. The label uses seven different shades of black ink in a technically demanding medium that requires great skill, concentration and years of training.

Details: 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006 vintages.
